Temperature Correction
A steel tape expands and contracts with temperature. Stamped on every steel tape is a temperature value (usually 20'c) at which the tape is accurate. If the tape is used when the temperature is not 20'c, then apply the following correction should be applied.

Taking (alpha) as the Coefficient of Expansion of steel, Tf as the temperature in the field, Ts as the standard temperature stamped on the tape, and L as the measured length:-

Correction = (alpha) L ( Tf - Ts )

This value should then be added to the measured ground distance.
